-
We support families at hospitals and at home, in the beautiful BC Fraser Valley
-
People are entitled to empowered choice when it concerns their bodies and their birth experiences. When we are equipped with enough resources, knowledge, and options, we become empowered.
-
We believe that all people deserve to look back on their childbirth with pride and accomplishment, knowing they were listened to and respected.
-
As advocates for empowered birth, we know that an ideal labor experience looks different to everyone. With this in mind, Jewel Birth Services supports and work with the needs, desires, and visions of all people.

-
Karsen Jewel
-
I was introduced to the beauty of birth during the home birth of my younger sister. I was six years old, at the time, and fascinated by the whole process.
-
As years passed, the power of community grew closer to my heart. When people empower each other, amazing things happen — I carry this belief with me as I support women and birthing people through childbirth and early parenthood.
-

-
Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Psychology, with plans to attain an MA in counseling.
-
My passions include mental wellness, holistic healing, meditation, tiny homes, yoga, hiking, and tea.

-
My Philosophy
-

-
I believe that the wisdom and strength required to labour and give birth are ancient and intrinsic. It is my aim to provide the guidance a birthing person (and partner) needs to become more in touch with that sacred part of themselves. Labor is benefited enormously with continuous support and encouragement, helping to remain relaxed and trusting of the birthing process.
-
I understand and support obstetrical interventions, and believe that birthing people should be informed ahead of time if medical interventions are being considered. In order for a person to remained empowered during their birth, they should know of all of their available options and be given the time needed to make an informed choice.
-
I realize that every birthing person has their own philosophy concerning the challenges of labour. As your Doula, I ensure that you have all the information you need ahead of time to make informed decisions. I will support you in your choices, whatever they may be, and work hard to make your birth experience a positive and memorable one.
-
I am grateful to be a part of such an intimate and special time for you and your loved ones.
-
My role is a calm, quiet, confident, reassuring, supportive presence. I am your advocate, but I do not speak for you. I am there to help ensure your desires and needs are met, so that you feel empowered and in control.
-
I am always there to comfort, encourage, support, and inform, helping to make your pregnancy and birth experience an unforgettable journey.
-
Birth
-
What does a birth Doula do for you?
-
Free ConsultationWe offer one consultation, free of charge, so that you may get to know us, and see if we are a good fit for you and your birthing goals. Your Doula will answer any questions you have, and share information about their services and training. This is a good opportunity to learn more about what a Doula can do for you and your birth experience.
-
Phone & Email Support Once you have selected JBS as part of your birth team, we will be available through phone and email. We answer questions and concerns as they arise, and offer suggestions and encouragement throughout your pregnancy.
-
Prenatal VisitsOur services include prenatal visits. In this time, your Doula will learn more about your goals and help you to create a birth plan. We will provide resources and information to help you make the most informed decisions possible. These visits help your Doula to learn how she might best support you, and anyone you wish to have present, during your delivery.
-
Professional Information During prenatal visits, your Doula will provide information about her training and certifications, and ask that you read through and sign an agreement of understanding. She will help you to gain a deeper understanding of what a doula does, and does not, have training for.
-
During Labour Whether you have a home water birth, a scheduled cesarean delivery, or a standard procedure hospital birth, a Doula is a wonderful labour support. When you begin having contractions, she will assist you in deciding when to call your care provider or head for the hospital. As labour progresses, she will be there to support and encourage you. Your Doula will remind you of the priorities mentioned in your birth plan, and support you should you choose to change them. During your labour, we work along side any partners you have, and help to encourage them in their support role.
-
As your Doula, we will remain with you for the entirety of your labour and delivery, and help you to feel settled and organized once baby has arrived. At a home birth, your Doula will stay and tidy up, brew tea, and provide time for you to rest with your new baby.
-
Baby’s First Feeding SupportYour Doula will help you to establish a plan for feeding your newborn. Should you choose to breastfeed, she will stay with you and support your first breastfeeding experience.
-
Postpartum Follow-up VisitAround one week after your birth, your Doula will provide a follow-up visit. At this time she will be able to go over the events of your labor. She will answer any questions, as well as provide breastfeeding support.
-
Community Referrals As a well-known birth and postpartum service, we are able to provide many suggestions of resources and community programs. Please feel free to inquire about support groups, educators, and childbirth programs available near you.
-
As your Doula, we do not:
-
Perform any clinical tasksDoulas provide emotional support. This means that we do not partake in any clinical tasks such as monitoring fetal heart rate, vaginal examinations, or taking blood pressure. To have a JBS Doula serve at your birth, you must be working with a licensed medical care provider, such as a midwife, GP or OBGYN.
-
Make decisions for youOu role as your Doula is to support and empower you in your own decisions. This means that we will help you to feel informed and take charge of your own experience.
-
Speak to the staff on your behalfYour Doula will remind you of your goals and desires and will help you to ask questions if you do not understand something. She will not speak for you, or over you.
-
Project any of our own beliefs onto your experience As your Doula, we will help to empower you in your own birthing experience. Doulas understand that every family has their own set of values and needs.
